Drug Rehab Program

In order to be totally free from drug, having to undergo a drug rehab program may be necessary. This will go through a process that has seven steps.

The process will start with admission of the individual to the program. A person may voluntarily subject himself to undergo rehabilitation. This is possible for those individuals who have accepted their conditions. Also, it can be those individuals who have realized that they can be cause of danger to themselves and to other people as well.

There are also those which are referred by concerned citizens or concerned friends and family members. This is if they see that there is already a need for a person to have professional help.
The second part of the rehab process is to undergo the intake stage. This will simply involve the assessment process and the part where, if needed, preliminary measures are taken. The plan of care throughout the possible whole duration of their stay is formulated and started as soon as possible.

Included in the assessment phase is knowing of the person’s history. This will encompass physical as well as mental history.

The main part of the process is detoxification. This is the part where the person is cleared from the addictive substances. This part is done slowly to ensure that the body and its physical processes will not be affected abruptly.

The detoxification process can take as short as three days or can be as long as ten days. During this whole process, the person is monitored in terms of behavior as well as for untoward signs and symptoms. There are possible medications that can be taken in order to make detox easier and less painful to the person.
This is done for patients who are residents in the facility. They need more monitoring and treatment options. Their entire stay can take as long as several months depending on their response to therapy.
For cases which do not need strict monitoring or those which are mild cases of addiction where there is no need for detoxification to occur, the drug rehab can be done at home or on an out-patient basis. The person will only need to visit a clinic or a facility as prescribed by the doctor. This can be as often as a few days in a week to a weekly basis.

Group therapies and support groups are also forms of out-patient care given to those who need mild rehabilitation. These are just encouraging activities to make a person go back to living a drug-free life.
The most important goal of care after discharge is the prevention of relapse. The person should still be actively involved in passive therapies such as group therapies.
